纽伯瑞，英国著名出版家。1713年，纽伯瑞出生在英国农家。他是自学成才的儿童文学作家和出版家。1744年他编写并出版了世界上第一本专门的、价格低廉的儿童书：《美丽小书》；他开办了世界上第一家专门的儿童读物印刷厂、世界上第一家专门的儿童书店，从此他不断改进，印刷发行了许多精美的儿童图书，深受儿童喜欢，由于他打破当时保守的风气，崇尚的“快乐至上”的儿童教育观念，开辟英美儿童文学之路。

纽伯瑞大奖是由美国图书馆学会的分支机构—— 美国图书馆儿童服务学会于1922年为纪念纽伯瑞而创设的奖项。得奖者必须是对美国儿童文学有杰出贡献者，并以美国公民及永久居民为限，自1922年起每年颁发给前一年度最杰出的美国儿童图书作者。它与“国际安徒生奖”齐名。“纽伯瑞奖”每年颁发一次，颁奖对象为上一年出版的英语儿童文学作品；每年颁发金奖一部、银奖一部或数部。

纽伯瑞因开创了现代英美儿童文学的发展道路而被誉为“儿童文学之父”。 纽伯瑞奖，1922年由美国图书馆协会创立，每年面向全球优秀儿童文学作品颁发金、银奖。多年来，它给全世界的孩子们带来了无数美妙动人的故事。
